My Family Life
I grew up in the Indianapolis area in the south side suburb of Greenwood. I am the youngest of four girls and come from a family full of teachers! I moved to Madison in August of 2004 and married my husband Andy in October of 2005. We have two beautiful children that I love to talk about! Landon turned seven in May and Emilee will be five in December. We love our life in Madison and I love teaching in such a wonderful community!
Interests and hobbies
I am a family person and LOVE spending time with my family. We enjoy the outdoors and boating. We make frequent visits to the river and Clifty Falls. We love walking in downtown Madison and going on family bike rides.
I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Marian College and a master's degree in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University.
My teaching experience
This will be my 13th year teaching first grade at Lydia Middleton!
Throughout my teaching career I have had many professional development opportunities. I have received extensive training in Reading First practices which focus on teaching reading through the five main components of phonics, phonemic awareness, comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. Our staff has also participated in many technology trainings that have helped us use our classroom Promethean boards. Over the past year we have started to receive training for our iPad implementation this school year. Other professional development opportunities our school staff has received have focused on our science and writing curriculum.
